Fr. James Lehman Biography
Fr. Jim's passion to help those that were hurting has been a driving force throughout his life. For three years he was a member of the Alexian Brothers, a papal congregation that cared for the sick. After leaving the Alexian Brothers he continued his studies in social work graduating with a Masters in Social Work in 1975. Despite his leaving the Order he continued his work in the church and was ordained a Permanent Deacon by Archbishop Sanchez of Santa Fe. in 1986. Following his ordination he continued his studies at the College of Santa Fe graduating in 1993 with a degree in Religious Studies and worked as the Parish Administrator of Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral in Las Cruces, NM. In 1994 he left the Cathedral and the Roman Catholic Church because of his desire to find an inclusive church where all were welcome. He and a core group formed Holy Family Parish where he was ordained a priest. A special 12th Anniversary Service was held in 2008.
His passion for the lost and poor continue as it is his desire to have a church where all are welcome. In 2003, Fr. Jim completed a Doctor of Psychology degree. He examined the spiritual and psychological effects of abuse and neglect on individuals and the role of clergy, parents, and therapists in helping them to find healing.
